Van Helsing? Hugh Jackman? Who Cares? We want DOM!!!
Just on a whim, Elvea and I went t the Van Helsing premiere red
carpet. Why? Hugh who -- I'm there to see Dom. It was fricking'
hot and we lurked in the shade and made the acquaintance of some
truly dreadful people -- professional autograph hounds. I never met
a nastier bunch of follks. Their sole gauge of star's worth was
whether that person would sign for them of not. If they wouldn't sign,
they were a "bitch". If they did, they were a '"sweetheart."
When the stars of Van Helsing showed up, these people went to any
lengths to get an autograph, including shoutint at the stars as if they
were recalcitrant puppies, shoving real fans out of the way -- you get
my meaning.
I hadn't brought anything to sign, so I did a not very good sketch of
Merry while we were waiting.
After Hugh Jackman showed up, the media left, the graph hounds left,
it was just us -- about half a dozen of us. Elvea insists Dom will be there
-- and I am about to bail since I have a long drive home.
Then -- there he is! The red carpet is largely over, most of the media has
left. He was in a tearing hurry since he was late, but he signed my
sketchbook. Elvea got a great pic of that but at my request has deleted me
from the picture.
He picked up his badge and that was when I snapped the one shot that I got.
It was worth the wait. He was very upbeat and happy - seemed chuffed to
bits to see a few folks waiting just for him. Later on we met some other fans
we'd hung with that day -- they had given up and gone to the Starbucks at
CityWalk. They said that Dom had gone up and down the red carpet and signed
more autograph and signed some for them.
I was very pleased to see a happy Dom! |
