First of all, background info.....Feliz, Victoria and I have met Dom before at his hotel room when he was staying at the Ilikai. Okay so, Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004. We woke up at 5am because we had the great pleasure of going to school on a Saturday at 6am! YIPEE! Haha. Alright when that fun was over we hung out for a while because it was still early. We found out around 10:30 that Victoria couldn't come with us to Sunset on the Beach, so we were bummed, but she told us to take a ton of pictures and we made sure we didn't let her down. (We used 8 rolls of film..hehe). So around 12ish, Feliz and I went to Lanikai Juice for our daily juice up. Then we got ready and left around 2:30 to go to Sunset on the Beach.
So we got to Wakiki and we were trying to find parking, and when we decided where to park, this guy behind mi rammed into us. So we had to deal with that, police reports and everything. It was pretty scary. Once everything was settled it was around 3:30 and we picked our spot in the luxurious sand, right behind the VIP section. We didn't feel like doing anything because we were still pretty shaken up, and freaked out. So we called a couple people and we felt a little better. So it was a little after 4, and the entertainment didn't start yet. When I was talking to someone on the phone Feliz saw this guy putting up posters around the VIP area, so she decided to talk to him.
Okay well anyway….she asked him who got to sit in there (VIP area), and he said for it was for the crew. She came to our spot and she told me what he said, I told her to ask him if he knew if the cast was going in there to watch. She went back to the guy and asked, and he said…
Jason : "Do you even know the cast?"
Feliz : "Of course, we actually met a cast member."
Jason : “Really, who?"
Feliz: "Dominic Monaghan."
Jason: "Ohh, Dominic."
Feliz : "Yeah, we wanted him to sign our pictures."
Jason: "Oh you know what, I'm going to be filming around here, it might be on the DVD. So if you see me around just come up to me and if we see him then I'll try to get you guys in and say Hey Dom here some of your friends. My name is Jason btw.”
Feliz: “My name is Feliz, well thanks so much.”
So we were getting really excited and we made sure we had an eye on Jason at all times, but he moved around a lot so it was hard.
After that we were thirsty and we had to go to the bathroom so we walked to Pacific Beach Hotel to use the BR, and we went to McD's to get some food for later and water (which I spilt all over a table). When we got back it was crazy, we sat down I saw a lady with a press looking badge so I read it, it said Betty Shimabukuro. I recognized the name from the article in the newspaper, then we saw Christine run by, and we yelled for her and she waved.
She came back about 10 minutes later, and she took us and Lara (a girl just like us we met) to the cast entry area, which was just a sidewalk, and it wasn't closed off or anything, which was really great. Christine left to go into the press line, so we waited for a little while then a little boy walks by, and he looked so familiar.
Me: "Isn't that the little boy from Lost, Malcolm?"
We took like a pic of his back when he was talking to a reporter. Then Naveen Andrews walked by. A couple more cast members walked right past us, I don't remember the order though, but I got a couple of shots of them walking down the sidewalk. Malcolm kept going in and out of the hang out area so we took a pic with him.
Then I saw Jorge Garcia coming, and Evangeline Lilly. I looked past them, and I saw Dom coming. Then I squeezed Feliz and Lara's arms.
Me: “There's Dom right there, he's coming!”
We got our cameras ready and people already started to swarm around him. Then he was getting closer and closer.
Feliz: "Dom can we have a minute?!"
Dom : "Sure!" (walks toward us)
He stopped in front of us, and the security guys were trying to move him along but he didn't move.
Feliz: "We met you before, can you sign our pictures?” (shows him pics)
Dom: "OH is that in my hotel?! I remember you guys, you crazy girls!"
We laughed. Feliz started talking extremely fast, coz the swarm turned into some kind of light show, with cameras going off every second. People started pushing and shoving it was getting really crazy, it was like these people popped outta the ground, we didn't see where they came from. Feliz gave him our presents which were a scarf, cuff, and a bracelet thing...Feliz also bought a tree from his forest and dedicated it to him. She signed the certificate, Love Feliz and Chanda XOXO. It was all in a starbucks bag.
Feliz: "We got you a present, well multiple presents actually, (he looks in bag) we bought a tree for you, but only one.”
Dom: “Oh that's okay. That's great, I guess that deserves a hug (something like that)” He hugs Feliz and I try to get a pic of that, but his face comes about 2 cm in front of me, and I couldn't take one. Shucks.
During some point when Dom was with us, Malcolm got behind us, but on the other side of the fence and yelled,
Malcolm: “ ÓHMYGOD ITS DOMINIC MONAGHAN!!!”
It was really funny. Anyway…Dom got pushed away to more people, and they asked him for autographs and everything. He only did a couple more autos and pics, then the escorts made him go inside the hang out area. Right when he got inside he stopped and put on the cuff, he looked at the scarf, but didn't put it on coz he already had one on. Malcolm led him to another place, and he talked to a couple people. He started walking towards the press line so we yelled…
US: “DOM!!” (he looks)
Me: “Dom tell Billy Happy Birthday from us!”
Dom: “Tell you??” (points to me)
Me: “No, Billy!”
He said something, but I didn't catch it, he walked to the first reporter and we move to get closer. We find a spot right by the gate, where the first reporter was, he glanced at us a couple times. We snapped our cameras about a million times, then he started moving down the line, so we moved also. We found a spot directly in front of him every time he moved to another reporter. And he kept glancing at us, coz I mean we were in his direct line of sight, and he made eye contact a couple of times. Then he did an interview with Christine, and there weren't that many people around us. He had his head resting on his fist, it looked like he was showing off his new cuff..lol. So during the interview, Dom glanced at us a couple times, then when his publicist told him that he needed to go talk to other people, he pointed to the cuff we gave him. And smiled.
Me: “ HEY!”
Feliz: “ Did you see the little bracelet inside the bag?”
Dom: “Yeah, it's in the bag with the scarf. I really LOVE this though.” (points to the cuff)
Then he moved on to the E! Channel people but we didn't move, coz it's just a couple feet away and we still had a good shot. Then he moved to the TV Guide people and we couldn't see him anymore so we shoved ourselves into the crowd and again we got directly in front.
Lady for TV Guide: “ So do you have any flowery shirts?” (Something like that, but probably really off..)
Dom: “ I've worn a few of that uh grass skirt things, uhh sarongs, wore sarongs around my stomach. In some second hand shop, (something) I don't know, it seems to be okay, I don't get any (something) out, Hawaiian girl (something something) wear (something)” He said a bit more on that but I couldn't hear… Dom glances at us a couple more times, then the lady looked at us once, I don't know why though. Weird.
Then Dom went to take a couple pics, and sign a few autographs at the end of the press line. Everyone started to move around in the hangout area, and we move to where we got a good view, and they were doing a group photo so we squeezed as much as we could, I swear Dom looked at us twice (I am not just saying this people, I swear!!) The whole cast started walking, they were going out of the hang out area to the stage, so we ran so we could get by them when they came out, and we got there just in time. The escorts told us to get out of the way, so we moved then we got behind Dom and Malcolm. We found Christine when we were following them, seriously we were about 1 foot away from him, it was like we were apart of the cast or something coz we just walked right behind him. So we walked with Dom to the VIP area, but then Christine went in, she had a pass, we could have went but I was dumb and stopped and went around. So we went back to our stuff to sit down but we didn't like it there, we were too antsy, we needed to see Dom. So we left our stuff, and went to the other side of the VIP area by the water. The whole cast was on stage, but we didn't have a good view, when they got off, Dom went to his seat, and we went around the other side of the screen by the hang out area, and we found a spot by the entrance to the VIP area. So the show started and we had a good view of Dom. When the actors' names appeared on screen people clapped but when Dom's name appeared Feliz and I screamed. The show went on. I kept looking at Dom and the screen, it was so weird watching Dom watch his self. He spotted us, and kept glancing. He was eating something from a take-out plate, he kept licking his fingers, it was so cute. It looked like he was sucking his thumb. During the first 15 minutes of the show I looked at him then he looked so I turned to the screen. Right after that he got up and left the VIP area, then Ian Somerhalder got up about 2 minutes afterwards and left the VIP area as well. We thought they went to the BR, but when Dom came back he was holding our starbucks bag, he sat down, and took out the tree certificate, he was reading it. Then he was talking to Evangeline and showed her the certificate and other presents, Feliz and I were both watching them. Then they both looked at us, so we turned away. We pretended that we weren't staring for 5 minutes. The next time I looked at Dom, which was about 3 minutes later, he took out a lighter and a cigarette and started to smoke, I was thinking,
My head: No this can not be! Dom isn't smoking, right? No!! He is!! *tear
It was like watching a friend of yours smoke right in front of you. I was horrified. Then Ian came back and went to Dom and got a cigarette lit from him. I didn't feel like watching him smoke, so I paid more attention to the show, but I still glanced at Dom here and there. One time when I glanced he looked our way and he got up a little then sat back down. Then the rest of the time I watched the show, it got so interesting I didn't look at Dom anymore. Some of the cast kept going in and out of the VIP area. Terry O'Quinn, Evangeline Lilly, Malcolm Kelley, and Daniel Dae Kim went out. When the show was done, Feliz waited at the exit, and I went to get our stuff. Terry came out, and we were going to take a picture with him and get his autograph but we didn't want to miss Dom. Then Daniel and Yunjin Kim went out. Oh we pet the dog in the show. There were a lot of people still inside and we couldn't see Dom. We were trying to look for Jason, so maybe he'd be able to let us in. So Feliz asked the guy blocking an entrance/exit thing,
Feliz: “Do you know Jason?”
Guy: “No.”
Feliz: “Oh he's working the camera, we are looking for him.” (long pause)
Some people were going in and he said,
Guy: “You guys can come in.”
Me: “Us?”
Guy: “Yeah.”
Us: “Thank you!” (Yah!!)
So we got in, and the rest of the cast was all over the place, just walking right in front of us, having conversations, saying “HI” to us. I wanted to stop and take pics of them and get their autographs but we needed to get to Dom first. Ian Somerhalder said “Hey” to Feliz and she said “Hi” back, and he just stood there, I think he was waiting for us to ask for an autograph or to take a picture. Now that I'm thinking back, we were really dumb not to get pics or autos from them. Crap! Anyway we found Dom and then Evangeline and Ian got right in front of us and started talking to each other so we went around them. Then we saw Dom, and Christine too. He was talking to some British guys. Then we were about to ask him, then the publicist lady was getting him to hurry up coz the limo was already there to take them to the after party I guess. So we yelled “DOM! Can we get a picture?” Dom turned and said, “Sure!”
So we followed him to the exit and it was got really crowed coz there were a lot of fans asking for autographs and then he was getting occupied, so when he was close to us again we asked again, and he said, “How about we just turn around right here?” He looked at Feliz and said, “Hmm?” I turned and asked Christine something I don't remember. There was no one to take it, we were running outta time so I was just going to take a picture of just us individually so it'd be faster, then finding someone all we wanted was a funny pic. But then we were on the move again, and he said, “Lets wait till we get out of this place, ladies.” There was this cute little girl saying something to Dom but I couldn't hear even though I was right next to him, he bent over to the girl and smiled, I looked at her and smiled too. Then we started to move again, and when we were walking away he shouted, “Be good! Listen to your parents. Its very important.” By the time he got to the end of the second sentence, he was practically talking to us, coz he wasn't shouting anymore. So we were walking side by side with Dom, then it got squishy so I moved a little behind him, but still on his side, then Feliz said, “We're really sorry for scaring you earlier out there, showing up wherever you were and all.” Dom said, “Oh no, no it's alright, that's okay, don't worry about it, it's good. It's alright.” So we finally got outta the VIP area but right when we got out the security people were taking Dom away from us. We just followed him though. We didn't wanna yell for him again, we thought it was kind of rude. We asked him so many times. We just walked behind them, and then they got to the limo, and we saw him descend slowly into the back, and the rest of the cast got in too. The limo drove away, and we waved. Then Malcolm came, and a couple other cast members, they waited for the other limo. So we said our goodbyes to Christine, and we walked to the car.
I would like to thank Christine for showing us where to go, and for being a great person. Lara for being really cool, and hanging out with us. Jason for helping and encouraging us. The guy at the VIP gate for letting us in. And especially Dom for putting up with Feliz and I. I know we're crazy.
