We had so much fun... almost everyone who's part of our little LotR fan
community on this island showed up plus some we new fans we had never
met but were soon talking to just as excitedly. The cast of "lost" were
supposed to arrive at 6p and some of the actors were actually on time...
it's just that no one apart from the media (there were plenty TV crews and
journalists) actually seemed to care. But then when Dom finally arrived just before 7, suddenly the whole place came alive. Compared to the normal rush at premieres or conventions the crowd was still very small though, and Dom took some time to sign autographs and take one or two pictures with fans while making his way to the little VIP enclosure that was set up right by the beach. Once in there, he was being interviewed by plenty of TV stations and magazines/newspapers/whatever else, but since the VIP area was pretty much just an open space surrounded by a low fence we could still take pictures and even listen to what he was telling the journalists.
By then, most people who weren't actually fans but had just stopped to see what the excitement was all about were gone and Dom was finally finished giving interviews. So there he was, talking a bit to a kid standing next to me. I was just enjoying the hobbit happiness when I suddenly though it might be neat to say something in german. So after he had signed the kid's picture and was about to leave I asked him in german if he could sign that little Merry/Pippin card for me. He said sure (his german is great by the way, not even much of an accent). While he was signing (not just writing my name but also "Be Merry" which I didn't see until later) I told him that I came from Berlin too (where he was born). He said something like "cool" (that wasn't what he said, but I can't remember exactly... all the excitement must have shut my brain down ^_^;).
After that, he apologized fro dropping my pen and then said "Tschuess" (bye) all in german. That was fun :)
A bit later, all the actors were introduced on stage before they started showing the pilot of "Lost". And, of course Dom got the loudest cheer from the crowd :) The show itself was ok and Dom's part is actually kind of funny... which is definitely needed, because the rest of it was pretty scary, with lots of suspense, re-living of the plane crash, drama and blood. Poor tourists who saw this and are gonna have to get on a plane to get home!
So yes, it was a great night, not just meeting a hobbit, but having fun with the other fans, sharing all the excitement, including the giggling and jittery legs ^_^; Dom being so nice and... normal (for the lack a better words) just added to the fun of course. So while this place is usually far away from all the excitement of concerts, conventions and meeting stars, when somebody actually does make it down here it makes for a great atmosphere to really enjoy the unlikely event. :) |
