» ENCOUNTERS Primetime Preview Weekend     |     12 September 2004     |     Taylor Saturday we headed to Disneyland and CA Adventures for some play time [since Sunday was dedicated strictly to stalking the hopes of meeting our beloved actor]. We rode some rides, ate at the Blue Bayou , and just had a grand old time. We saw the Parade of Stars that day, but Dominic wasn't there. He was still on his plane from Hawaii [having had worked till 7am] and didn't get in till after 4 pm. Still, it was fun; we saw a bunch of people that I hadn't expected and some [such as Erik Von Detton] that I hadn't seen or heard from since I was a kid. It was fantastic! But not as great as Sunday, but I'm getting ahead of myself there. Later that day, we went on Splash Mountain ; Genevieve was in the front, then myself, followed by Ivy. When we went down the big drop, Genevieve formed a D, I an O, and Ivy an M. Guess what that spells! If you said badger, you're wrong; if you said Dom, you get the golden prize! *hands out cookies* Well, we bought two copies of the photo [all pictures can be seen here after I get them up] with the intent of giving one to Dominic, and saving one for ourselves. Then Sunday rolled around. We'd wanted to be there early, but from a combination of different setbacks, we were a tad bit late. When we did get to CA Adventures , the line for having your photo taken with the cast of LOST was overflowing with bodies. Needless to say, there was no way we were going to get through that line. So, we opted to stand off to the side a bit, against a white rope and a guy named Dan. Ohhhhhh Dan *shakes head* He worked at the park and we couldn't be sure if he knew and wouldn't tell us or if he really didn't know what was going on. But eventually, he leaned over and told me that the cast would be walking by where we were. The area was out and away from the main group of fans, so we, along with Norma [a girl we met and later hung out with all day], a British woman and her child and friend, were pretty much the only ones over there. So when Dominic and the rest of the cast [who I'll mention later], came through the back entrance to the Golden Vine Winery and straight towards us, who else was he going to talk to??? WHO? No one; he never saw past us. We called his name and he smiled and broke off from the group of people with him and came over. We all had our photo's and pens out for him to sign our stuff, so we were set. He took my Sharpie and went to sign my photo but then saw what else I'd been holding out to him. My new copy of the first season of Hetty Wainthropp Investigates . He snatched it out of my hands and stared at it for a moment before speaking: Dominic: Where did you get this? *voice high and inquisitive* Me: Bought it last Tuesday when it came out. Dominic: *turning to friends, cast members and bodyguards PA's* LOOK! Look at this! SEE! That's me when I was a kid! LOOK! Do you see that!? I'm all childlike!! Wow, that's great *signs it* Me: *trying to be calm on the outside, spazzing out on the inside* Yeah, it's great, we love it. We've watched the whole thing *trembling* Dominic: *handing it back and moving on to sign Ivy's picture [with my Sharpie... that bit's important]* Thank you, wow, I can't believe you have that. That's great. I just about died right then. *shivers in remembrance* So Dom went on to sign Ivy's photograph as well as Genevieve's. Genevieve talked to him about Peter Lion, who happens to be her boss. Dominic thought that was great, and was impressed as well, as he moved on to sign more things. She also asked for a kiss, but he said “I don't really do that” and we all called him a liar. He just blushed and looked away for a moment. He was, in fact, sheepish. Before he left we asked him if he'd have time to take a quick photo, but his charges were pushing him along. Genevieve asked quickly if he could hang out with us, and he said he was going to be busy for most of the day, as he was being practically pulled away from us. But not before he had the chance to lean down and whisper to Genevieve that he'd be in Disneyland and that we should keep an eye out for him so that we could spend time together. We just about died. Before he left, I handed him the photograph we'd taken on Splash Mountain the day before, as well as a button with a picture of a badger being poked by a spoon. The button reads “Spooning Badgers” and by the spoon, it says “*prod*”. We'd made that for him so Genevieve could give it to him at the Comic Con, but that never worked out. But this way, we're sure he got it because I handed it directly to him, told him it was to go with his “I poke Badgers with Spoons” shirt. He chuckled and thanked us. The note read: Dom ~ From Hetty to Lost: always our favorite. Your acting brings us joy; congratulations on Lost, we look forward to watching you weekly. Wish we could have spent more time with you. Love and Best Wishes ~ Ivy, Taylor and Genevieve. Around this time, at least a hundred fans had rushed our private little area, and were reaching and screaming and groping. Dominic placed my Sharpie in his mouth and leaned in to hug a girl, at which point, he handed off the Sharpie to a man [who I asked for it back from and he was about to give it back] when some fan girl grabbed it and went running off screaming like she'd just struck gold. My Sharpie. My Dom. That Sharpie had been with me to see Sean! GAH! And now Dom! GAH! But the worst part was.... Dom then took another Sharpie from Ivy (but it was my Sharpie), and it disappeared as well.. Dominic will hence forth be known as... the Sharpie Whore. There was about a half hour time period where people were taking photos and at which time, while the focus was on Dominic, we met up with and talked to Matthew Fox, Evangeline Lilly, and Harold Perrineau Jr. That was awesome. I got my picture with Matthew, and talked to him and Harold a bit about the show. They were excited to see that the show was already gathering a fan base. But, this trip was about Dominic... so back to the story. We stayed where we were in hopes that Dom would come back the way that they had come. Dan, was NO help. He was making fun of us and teasing, so of course, we teased and made fun back. I took his picture and threatened to come back and ask for his signature, he just rolled his eyes and laughed. But once again, this is about Dom. Dan told us that the cast would be coming back across that way and that we should stay where we were. Well, Dominic hadn't had a chance to sign my photo, so I had hoped to do that on his way back. Unfortunately, there were so many people, and they were trying to get him out of there so I settled for a smile and hand shake as he was being pulled off. Then it was off to the Question and Answer session. At first we were a bit skeptical about getting in, the line was already around the Golden Dreams Theater where it was taking place. But by some miracle, we ended up getting into the waiting area, where there were three doors. We were told to go to the first, and ended up somewhere in the middle of the group. We feared for bad seats, but like I said before, we were driven by a force much greater than luck. When the doors opened, everyone was told to go all the way to the other side. We ended up third row, left side, perfect viewing of the chairs where the stars were going to be, and the walkway that they were to come by. *SQUEE* We'd been waiting for a while when the MC, Cory, came over and started talking to us. He was our second friend, it was grrrreat! He told us specifically that the actors would be coming down our side of the theater, and that although he couldn't mention to Dominic that I was a Manchester United fan [he wasn't the guy who would be interviewing the cast], he did suggest we hold up the Manchester United scarf and scream and try to get his attention. He wished us good luck and we took some photos and got hugs. He was wonderful. The session itself was extremely entertaining. Dominic didn't say a lot because he wasn't feeling that great. “Hey guys, I've got an ear infection, and Matt just put some drops in my ear, so if you see some liquid dripping out of my ears, I'm not weird, it's just the drops.” I felt bad that everyone was making so much noise, but who am I to come between frantic screaming girls and the sex-charged Monaghan? He continued to answer a few questions, using most of the time, jest. “I'm a woman.” “I love how cheeky you guys are.” And my personal favorite: [in regards to any sexual attachment] “I'm married... to... the business??” It's almost as if he ignored the question because he didn't want to admit his heart belonged to Elijah and/or Billy. *waggles eyebrows* Anyway, moving on. During the Q&A, while people were cheering, we held up the scarf like Cory suggested. Dom spotted it, smiled, winked and gave us the thumbs up. We were a bit disappointed because we thought that we would have gotten a bigger rise out of it. Well, patience is a virtue *smiles* The host asked Dom to pick someone from the audience to ask a question. Before the host even finished talking, Dominic was standing and pointing at us, smiling wide and speaking fast and excited. “The girls with the Manchester scarf!!” We were completely stunned, because none of us had our hands up. We'd figured there were so many people there that we'd not be able to get a question in, so we kind of gave up on that idea. But Dom wanted us. Norma stood and took the lead in questions. She first told Dom that we absolutely loved him and came all the way from San Francisco to see him. He said thanks, and waved and sort of blushed. She mentioned that she was pregnant, and Dom perked up, looking about and pointing at his chest. Dom: Me? Right? That's mine? *nodding frantically and smiling* Then Norma asked what it was like filming in Hawaii and if she could get another picture with Matthew since the first one didn't turn out. He said of course, and just as Dom was about to answer the question, the bloke doing the interview cut him off. That was sad *tears* but it only gets better! I tried to ask Dominic how it was going from a British television show, to Lord of the Rings, to an American television show, but I couldn't get past, “Dom! I love the characters you play, they're so inspiring and- *tongue tied*” I kept trying to get the question out, but he stopped me, said thank you, and then told me that was enough while laughing and blushing. Dom: You're done! That's enough love! *blush blush* I- yeah, no more *averts eyes, blushes more. Looks back, smiles, winks, blushes again* So after the session, through which Dom mainly focused his attention on my friends and I, playing winking games and the like, Norma got taken away by the security to get her picture taken with Matthew. They apologized to her saying that they wished they could have brought the rest of us back, but because of security reasons, we couldn't. The whole cast told her congratulations, and just as she was leaving, Dominic came up behind her and looped his arms about her stomach, saying “Congratulations, tell the Manchester girls that I love them and will be looking for them in the park today. I really want to hang out with them.” Norma told us this and we were totally stoked. There were now seven of us; Genevieve, Ivy, Norma, Steph, Kathy, Jenn, and myself. We went on Tower of Terror . We wanted to do something again for Dominic, with all of us, so we requested the front row, got it, and held up the Manchester scarf. We bought two copies again, and then went over to Disneyland to search for Dommeh. Unfortunately, we didn't see him. We got some food, rode a couple of rides, then decided to head over to CA Adventures to make one last search. We decided that perhaps we might catch him at his hotel to give him the picture, and we ended up heading in the right direction. We got a tip off that he'd headed back there because he was feeling like shite from his ear infection. So we all signed our names on the photo, and wrote him a note that basically said, Get better Soon Dom! We're sorry we never caught up with you like you wanted, but we'll see you around. With Love and Care ~ The Manchester Girls . We left it there with the Hotel guy in hopes that he could get it to Dominic, then it was off to the premiere of LOST . Steph and I ran ahead to save seats and we ended up getting the center of the theater on the lower part. The seats were great, as were the photos that ABC gave us. I left for a bit to go to the bathroom and ran into.... CORY! Well, actually, I was walking by and he grabbed me by the arm and stopped me. He and I talked for about five minutes about how we'd gotten to talk with Dom. His shirt buttons were all messed up, so I fixed them for him as we talked. He said he was really happy that we got to talk with Dom, and said that Dom was disappointed he hadn't seen us again. I told him to tell Dom the same if he talked to him again, and he said he would. I thanked him once again and let him know how much his efforts meant to all of us. He gave me a hug and I went back in the theater to take my seat. Cory then came out a bit later to introduce LOST and we all shouted and said we loved him. He waved and smiled and said hello to us on the microphone and as he left, he said “Goodbye Girls, Take care!” Then we watched the premiere. Afterwards, we split off from the other four girls, and Genevieve, Ivy and I decided to head back to the hotel to see if the photo got worked out. Unfortunately, the man said he'd given the photo to his manager who checked with ABC. We'd missed Dom by about ten minutes, as he had checked out. We got the photo back and hopefully, we'll get it to him eventually. The three of us went back to Disneyland for a bit before heading to Fresno. We woke up this morning to find out that we were on ABC's Website as well as starDOM. All in all... Mission Complete.
