Due to various reasons, my friends and I did not make it to CA Adventures early as we had planned. We ended up being about half an hour after the park opened. So we weren't able to get in line to have our picture taken with him, unfortunately. So we were really bummed until we started talking to a Cast Member (employee) who said that Dom would be coming from around where we were standing. So trying to stay quiet about it, we stood there until it was supposed to begin. Suddenly, this little man walks out from the "backstage" area. A huge scream went through the crowd. Dominic had arrived. He came straight towards us actually. My friend (with the Manchester United scarf and the Hetty Wainthropp DVD named Taylor, I'm the one laughing next to her [Ivy]) had him sign her copy of Hetty and we actually got to talk to him quite a bit. He was very excited about her DVD. He signed my photo and I told him he was one of my favorite actors. The day before we had actually got a picture for him of us on Splash Mountain that spelled out DOM and gave it to him. My friends also designed and made a button for him to go with his "I poke badgers with spoons" T-shirt. It says 'SPOONING BADGERS' and has a badger on it. Near the badger is a spoon that says "*prod*" next to it. We gave these to him as he was walking by and he seemed very grateful to us.
My friend Gen talked to him about Peter Lyon who is her boss. She translates phrases into Elvish for him to put on his swords and things. She also asked him if we could hang out with him later that day. He said that he would be really busy, but leaned into us and said, "I'll be in Disneyland riding the rides when I have some free time. Come look for me." So we were pretty stoked about that. We waited around until he left to get one last look of him before heading off to the Golden Dreams Theatre where they were having the Q & A with the cast of Lost. We ended up getting third row seats despite the really long line.
At one point we held up the Manchester United scarf to get his attention. He kinda winked and gave us the thumbs up. We thought we would get a bigger rise out of him, but he didn't really respond all that much until he had to pick someone out of the audience to ask the cast a question. Without even letting the host finish asking Dom to do this really, he pointed at us and said, "Let's hear from the Manchester girls." We didn't even have our hands raised at this point!
Norma, a girl we had met earlier, stood up and said, "First off Dom, I just wanted to tell you that my friends really love and adore you. Also, I'm here to see you and I came all the way down and I'm pregnant." At this point he said, "You're pregnant?" Pointing to himself, "It's mine right? I'm the father?" Everybody laughed and she continued saying, "I'm from Hawaii and I just wanted to know how you guys enjoyed filming there and Matthew, my picture didn't turn out and I know I said I didn't care, but could I take another one with you?" Matthew said, "Of course!" and they were about to move on when Taylor spoke up. She complimented Dom and said she a huge fan of all of his work and he was an inspiration to her. However, she never got to ask her question because Dom was embarrassed by the compliments (he blushing bright red!) and said, "All right, that's enough. Thank you very much!"
The Q & A was awesome because Dom was very funny. He told the audience that he loved "How cheeky we were" and he did a very funny impression of an American accent when Evie made fun of his accent. Nasal voice: "Partee, is that better? Partee." Poor guy had an ear infection though.
After the Q & A was over, the security took Norma out to take her picture and we weren't allowed to follow :(. Oh well, Dom gave her a hug and told her congratulations on the baby. Also, he said, "Tell the Manchester girls that I love them and I'll be looking for them later today." *SQUEEE!!*
Unfortunately, we didn't get to see him again that day. He was feeling sick and rather than go to the parks he went back to his hotel. We tried to drop him a note telling him we hoped he felt better, but he had already checked out by the time we got there. Darn!
The experience was still wonderful! I got to meet one of my favorite actors. Someone who is a huge inspiration to me! I'm going to get the picture he signed for me framed and keep it in my dorm room. He wanted to hang out with us! YAY! Hopefully, one day I'll meet him again and we can actually hang out with him. This was the experience of a lifetime. |
